A weather widget for Chrome’s new tab.

Look at the weather without opening a weather site. Startwerk shows the current conditions, the next six hours and up to five days ahead for your postal code, every time you open a new tab.

Weather from the source

The data comes from Deutscher Wetterdienst, Germany’s national meteorological service, through the open Bright Sky service. That makes Startwerk’s weather precise for Germany and its neighbours, and it is currently available in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, France, Poland and the Czech Republic.

Your postal code is matched to a location on your device. Only coordinates rounded to about one kilometre are sent to fetch the weather, never the postal code itself, and the data is refreshed at most every 30 minutes.

Data source: Deutscher Wetterdienst, processed via Bright Sky. Postal codes: GeoNames (CC BY 4.0).

What the weather widget shows

Now and today

Temperature, conditions, today’s high and low, wind with direction, humidity and the rain risk for the next three hours.

Hours and days

The next six hours and up to five days with a temperature range and the chance of rain.

Several places

Add a second weather widget for another city, for example where your family lives.

A sky that matches

Turn on the weather background and the whole page shows the weather outside, with real sunrise times, rain on the glass and stars at night.

Set up the weather widget

  1. Install Startwerk

Add Startwerk to Chrome and open a new tab. In supported countries the weather card is already there.

  2. Enter your postal code

Click the card, choose your country and type your postal code. Chrome asks once for access to the weather service.

  3. Turn on the background, if you like

In Settings → Appearance → Background, choose Weather background.

Questions and answers

Which countries are supported?
Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, France, Poland and the Czech Republic. More countries are planned.
Can I use Fahrenheit?
Not yet. Startwerk shows temperatures in degrees Celsius and wind in km/h.
Does Startwerk know my location?
No. Startwerk doesn’t ask for your location. It only uses the postal code you enter, converted to rounded coordinates on your device.
