A visual bookmark manager for Chrome’s new tab.

The sites you open every day, as tidy icons right where you start. Startwerk shows your bookmarks on every new tab, sorted the way you want, one set per Space.

Bookmarks you actually see

Chrome’s bookmarks bar is small, and the bookmark manager is a separate page you rarely open. Startwerk puts your most used links where your day begins: large, labelled icons on the new tab, one click away.

Each Space has its own bookmarks, so work links don’t sit next to recipes. If you prefer, Startwerk sorts them by how often you click them, and the order only changes on the next page load, so nothing jumps around while you look.

What the bookmarks widget does

Drag and drop

In edit mode, drag tiles into place, or drop one onto a Space tab to move it there. The arrow keys work too.

Sort by clicks

Turn on sorting by clicks and the links you use most move to the front. Click counts stay on your device.

Search with “/”

Type “/” in the search box, then a few letters, and Startwerk lists matching bookmarks from all Spaces. Enter opens the highlighted one.

Import in one click

Bring over your Chrome bookmarks bar or up to 12 of your most visited sites. Existing links are skipped, so nothing is doubled.

Set up your bookmarks

  1. Install Startwerk

Add Startwerk to Chrome and open a new tab.

  2. Import or add links

In Settings → Data, import your bookmarks bar, or click + in edit mode and enter an address.

  3. Arrange them

Drag tiles into order, move them between Spaces, or turn on sorting by clicks.

Questions and answers

Does Startwerk replace Chrome’s bookmarks?
No. Startwerk keeps its own set of links for your new tab. Importing copies the links from your bookmarks bar; your Chrome bookmarks stay as they are.
Where do the icons come from?
From Chrome’s own local icon cache. If you turn on high-resolution icons, Startwerk loads larger ones from Google’s favicon service; only the site’s domain is sent.
Are folders from the bookmarks bar imported?
The import takes the links at the top level of your bookmarks bar. Links inside subfolders are not included.
